Turning Nothing into Something: Business Plans, Profits, & Losses

Like building a house, when you start a business you need to lay a solid foundation. Without a strong foundation you run the risk of wasting time, energy, and valuable resources. To make sure that doesn’t happen, you need a business plan. Do you know how to create one or where to learn more about what you need to start your business?

With so many business incubators, entrepreneurial networks, and mentorship opportunities, Ottawa is rich with the resources you need to be successful as a business owner. However, all of those options can be daunting to someone who’s just starting out, so how do you start without becoming overwhelmed?

Join us on April 27th where we’ll be discussing what it’s like to start your own business and how to take advantage of the local resources available to set yourself up for success. Our expert panel will also share their personal stories about their first years in business.

Dave Hale, Founder & CEO, SOSHAL

Dave is a harmlessly insane entrepreneur working with talented craftspeople to design and market products for startups, tech companies, and brands. Dave and his partner, Phil Sonea, founded SOSHAL in 2010, have employed more than 50 people, and work with notable clients such as Bell Media, Gabriel Pizza, Honda, Ottawa Sports & Entertainment Group, REALTOR.ca, and Survey Monkey.

Dave is a recipient of Marketing Magazine's 30 Under 30 Award, Profit Magazine's 20 Under 30 Award, and began his career designing haunted houses that have been experienced by more than 1 million people. Très bizarre.

Manuel Hernandez, Business Development Manager, Futurpreneur

Starting at a young age, and with over 22 years of experience as a sales professional in a variety of industries, Manuel has formulated a set of simple principles to prioritize client service and satisfaction. After a lifetime of learning, he's developed a strong partnership approach and long term relationship building that has served many clients well. From door to door sales, to sales director to owning his own financial practice, the journey has become that of helping others as a way of life.

Manuel has been a proud Canadian citizen for over 16 years, has earned a business degree with a Major in International Business, and speaks over 5 languages. This, combined with a perspective of living in all 3 North American Countries, and with a strong aptitude and passion for entrepreneurship, has given Manuel experience that he enjoys sharing with new entrepreneurs as they embark on their own journey.

All of this with one belief at the core of it all: "there is no substitute for hard work".
